Stefan Scougall could return to action against Rochdale later this month, Nigel Clough has confirmed.
The Sheffield United midfielder has failed to make an appearance since last month’s meeting with Coventry City after injuring his knee.
Keith Hill’s side visit South Yorkshire on Saturday 13 September and Clough, the United manager, remains hopeful that Scougall will be available for selection.
“We’ll be working with Stefan during the international break,” he said. “If everything goes according to plan then there’s a chance he might be okay for that match.
“But, what we won’t be doing, is taking any risks or asking too much of him too soon. Because, if we do that and Stefan’s not quite ready, then we’ll risk losing him for longer which, it goes without saying, is something that we don’t want to do. We want Stefan to recover properly and correctly.”
