Steve Cotterill has refuted claims that Sheffield United and Bristol City will buckle under the pressure of being promotion favourites.
Instead, speaking ahead of today’s League One curtainraiser at Bramall Lane, he insisted both teams could actually flourish in the spotlight after battling against relegation last term.
Cotterill, the City manager said: “There is no more pressure on us than there was last year. If you want real pressure, try being bottom of the league.
“We will be putting pressure on ourselves to win football matches and if that is happening when you are top of the league, then that’s fine with me.”
United, who were 21st in the table when Nigel Clough took charge in October, hope Stefan Scougall, Craig Alcock, Bob Harris and Jose Baxter will be available for selection against the visitors from Ashton Gate. City, who also flirted with the bottom four only to pull clear during the second half of the campaign, expected to be without Karleigh Osborne.
