Sheffield United will not be intimidated by the wall of noise set to greet them at Fratton Park, Chris Porter vowed last night.

Portsmouth, who entertain Chris Morgan’s side today, are expecting a near sell-out crowd following their recent takeover by a supporters trust.

But Porter said: “We’re used to playing in front of big crowds because we do it every week at our place. So that’s not going to bother us, we’re just concentrating on our game.

“In any case, we’ve got lots of experienced lads in the team who have been in these situations before.

“Personally, I enjoy the pressure. You’d much rather be playing in front of a big crowd creating an atmosphere rather than a handful of people surely?”

Portsmouth, 22nd in the table and destined for relegation, nevertheless came within a whisker of beating Brentford last weekend.

Speaking ahead of their meeting with fourth placed United, Portsmouth manager Guy Whittingham said: “They are a tough team. They have been up and around the top three or four all season so we know it’s going to be a difficult game.

“But we have shown at Brentford that we are capable of playing against teams like that and putting in a good performance.”
