DANNY Wilson believes the experience in his Sheffield United squad could be the key to ensuring promotion from League One.

With 10 matches remaining, the Blades lie in second position, trailing league leaders Doncaster Rovers by three points. But the Bramall Lane outfit, whose clash at Crewe Alexandra in midweek was called off because of a frozen pitch at Gresty Road, crucially, have a match in hand over all of the other sides in the top six and two over fifth-placed Tranmere Rovers.

United narrowly missed out on going up last term, losing to Huddersfield Town on penalties in the play-off final, but are determined to make amends this time around.

Wilson said: “It is vital to have experience in the dressing room because it helps you to stay focused which is what we aim to do. We’ve got a saying about only trying to take care of things we can control and not worrying about the things we can’t.

“It’s important not to worry about what anyone else is doing. What you’ve got to do is just think about yourselves.”

Wilson, meanwhile, has allowed youngster Jordan Chappell to join Torquay United on loan until the end of the season. The winger, who has not featured for United since December, spent two months on loan at Burton Albion earlier on in the season.

“Jordan is quick, direct and the important part is that he knows the league,” said Torquay boss Alan Knill. “I live in Sheffield and when the United youth team had a good cup run, I watched a lot of their games and Jordan was one of the outstanding players.”
