The Star's Sheffield United writer James Shield says the Blades can take a huge amount of confidence from their narrow defeat to Manchester United, into the rest of the League One campaign.

Nigel Adkins side had held a team worth tens of millions of pounds right up until injury time when Dean Hammond's challenge on Memphis Depay saw the Dutchman go tumbling acrobatically in the box and referee Jonathan Moss pointed to the spot.

Wayne Rooney stepped up and blasted his penalty into the left corner of the goal and with that went Sheffield United's dreams.

However, James Shield says that the Blades' performance can help them in their quest for promotion from League One this season.

He said: "When the disappointment subsides, there is no doubt that Sheffield United will be the team that takes more away from the game than the Manchester United players.

"They can take confidence and self belief from the fact that they have taken a Manchester United team which when you look at the team sheet, wouldn't have raised an eyebrow had the side began a Premier League fixture, so far before unfortunately one lapse in judgement cost them the game."
