Sheffield United manager Nigel Adkins paid tribute to his players and the fans after an impressive 2-0 win over Swindon at the County Ground.

Second half goals from Neill Collins and Billy Sharp, his second in successive league games, secured the victory for United and went some way towards exorcising the demons of a 5-2 defeat last season at this venue, not to mention the play off nightmare which saw the Blades crash out in the semi-finals.

Adkins, whose side moved up to second in the table, said "That was a really disciplined performance against a very good side. All credit to the players.

"Credit to the supporters too. We couldn't go storming forward but they understood and stuck with us."

He added: "We've come with a gameplan and I thought the players were fantastic in their application of it."
