Chesterfield: Cook targets repeat performance

CHESTERFIELD will beat Southend today if they repeat the form the showed in their last game, a 3-0 home victory against Northampton, says manager Paul Cook.

“If we play like we did against Northampton, we’ll win the game,” he said, “It’s not complicated: Southend have got their hands full with us.”

The Shrimpers won 3-0 the last time the times met, and Cook admitted “We went down there pre-Christmas and we got, in my opinion, a heavy defeat.

“It was a thoroughly deserved defeat against a team that were a lot hungrier than us, had a lot more physical strength than us, and were a lot better on the night.”

Last weekend’s game at Torquay was called off owing to a waterlogged pitch: “The lads had a little break last weekend,” said Cook. “It was good after the Christmas period to give them a couple of days off and let them get back to recharging their batteries. We’re looking forward to a game against a Southend side that will be very strong.”
