Spireites’ winless record at the Crown Ground continued as Accrington Stanley ended their own nine-game winless run with a 1-0 victory, writes Phil Tooley.

Romy Boco scored midway through the second half to win a game that, for long periods, saw the visitors dominate but they found on-loan keeper Cameron Belford in fine form, the only time Spireites beat him the effort was offside.

Former Accrington boss Paul Cook, who picked up a few boos on his return, brought back Marc Richards and Jack Lester after injury and suspension to head up a 4-4-2 formation.

Luis Boa Morte and Mark Randall also returned with the suspended Conor Townsend plus bench sitters Jay O’Shea, Brennan Dickenson and Danny Whitaker making way.

Stanley started brightest, Boco’s volley forcing a save from Tommy Lee. Liam Cooper had to head away an Amond header and Lee Molyneux drove just too high.

Lester hit wide with Spireites’ first attack before Richards, from an angle and Randall, with a terrific 45-yard chip, hit the bar.

With the stiff breeze behind Chesterfield backs they lost the ball from the restart and Amond burst forwards but Hird defended well and set up an attack that saw a Tendayi Darikwa shot deflected.

Talbot blocked a Boco shot and Boa Morte also saw an effort similarly halted before Belford made a brilliant save to deny Lester.

Boa Morte shot across the face after a corner, Darikwa’s run and cross just eluded a trio of blue shirts and Randall’s free-kick was just too high as, for the first time in the game, a goal for the visitors looked more than likely.

But typical of football, the flow of the game was irrelevant to the story. Belford’s goal-kick was knocked on by ex-Blade James Beattie for Boco to gather, aim and shoot left footed and low from the left side, just inside the box to break the deadlock.

There was a string of close calls from the visitors and a long list of Belford saves, and when a Sam Hird header did beat the keeper on 89, he was adjudged to have been offside.
