One of manager Paul Cook’s targets, 23-year-old midfielder Amine Linganzi, has joined promoted Gillingham on a two-year deal.

The Algerian-born tall ex-St Etienne, Blackburn Rovers and Accrington Stanley engine-roomer made 13 appearances under Chesterfield’s assistant manager, Leam Richardson, last season at Stanley after Rovers allowed him to leave.

Twitter-based rumours have linked Chesterfield with ex Owls and Blades midfielder Jon-Paul McGovern, released by Carlisle United, former Spireites loan striker Davide Somma, freed by Leeds United, and AFC Wimbledon’s former Cardiff winger, Kevin Sainte-Luce.

Former Chesterfield keeper Marton Fulop is recovering after having a tumour removed from his arm. The Hungarian International, who had a spell on loan at Saltergate from Tottenham Hotspur, has been playing in Greece with Asteras Tripoli.

The 30-year-old said: “I am sure that after a few months I will be ready to continue playing football. I’d like to train between treatment courses.”
