Midfielder Conor Hourihane believes confidence and belief can help Barnsley topple high-fliers Peterborough United tomorrow.

The Reds take on Posh at London Road having won successive league games after a frustrating run which saw them second as low as second bottom in League One.

But welcome - and hard-fought - wins over Rochdale and Bradford City have catapulted Danny Wilson’s side up to 13th and with a chance to push into the top half of the table.

“Things are good, a lot of people are in good spirits after back-to-back [league] wins,” revealed Hourihane.

“Maybe a week ago people were asking questions about us. It was doom and gloom and we were down at the bottom of the league.

“But after the back of two very good wins people are looking up again.

“That’s the story of football to be honest, it can change week by week.

“We’re all really looking forward and confident going into the Peterborough game, so hopefully we’ll get a good result.

“It’s been a relief we’ve got a couple of good results because you don’t want to be thinking ‘bl**dy hell, we’re down at the wrong end of the division and we don’t want to be here for much longer’,

“But we’ve put a lot of hard work in on the training ground and that really has paid off.”

Posh, under the guidance of manager Darren Ferguson; have not lost at home in the league this season in six outings.

But Irishman Hourihane, who has already scored six goals this season, isn’t fazed by the challenge which lies ahead this weekend against opponents who are consistently strong at home.

“They’re up near the top of the league and they’re probably there for a reason,” admitted Hourihane.

“But every team has 11 players and they’re there to be beaten. We’ve had two good wins, so we’re equally as confident.

“It should be a good game and we’re all looking forward to it.

“We go into Saturday with our homework done and hopefully prepared to get the result we all want.”
