CHAIRMAN Len South is hoping Rovers boss Dean Saunders will attend the Supporters’ Club agm at the Lakeside Suite at the Keepmoat Stadium on July 5.
“I’m sure the supporters would like to hear what Dean has got to say about the forthcoming season and he’ll be assured of a warm welcome,” said Mr South.
Despite having failed to keep Rovers in the Championship, Mr South claims Saunders still has the support of the vast majority of supporters.
“Most Rovers’ fans I speak to, although one or two disagree, believe that Dean should have an opportunity to try and get us back into the Championship,” he says.
“He had his hands tied to a degree last season but he’ll have the opportunity to demonstrate to the people of Doncaster, and the rest of the Football League, what he is capable of and I hope he is capable of taking us straight back up.
“He’ll start with a clean sheet next season - though hopefully we’ll still have at least half-a-dozen or so of last season’s players to build the team around.
“I don’t know how many of the current contracted players, or those who are out of contract Dean wants to keep, will still be here next season because I know that he has to cut his cloth according to the funds he has available.
“We’ve got to get the team spirit back which I felt we lost last season and we’ve got to get the fans getting behind the team and get the Keepmoat full to busting.
“I think it’s important that we get off to a good start and if we can do that then I think that we could kick on.
“We are going to have more fixtures next season, starting the FA Cup in the first round again and also being back in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy, which will no doubt bring back memories of our victory at the Millennium.
“Although I want us to do well in both competitions, as well as the League Cup, realistically we know we aren’t going to win at least two of those tournaments and the the priority will be the league.”
Len South will be seeking re-election at the agm.
The North Branch will hold their agm at Carcroft WMC on July 4.
