Diouf at the double for Rovers

DONCASTER Rovers upset the odds when posting a 3-2 win against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Strikers Diouf (2) and Sharp both produced clinical finishes to earn Rovers a 3-0 half time lead.

Rovers took the lead on 17 minutes when Diouf headed home in fine style from Coppinger’s left wing cross.

The quality of the finish showed just why new Rovers boss Dean Saunders had brought the former Premier League player to the club on a short term contract.

Rovers doubled their lead on 24 minutes, Sharp headed home from Coppinger’s right wing cross.

Obviously aware of the striker’s personal tragedy, the home fans joined the Doncaster supporters in celebrating the goal - a fact much appreciated by the Doncaster striker.

Rovers made it 3-0 on 39 minutes.

Sharp set up Diouf and he ran on before picking his spot with a clinical finish from just outside the area.

You sensed that Ipswich would need to capitalise on their early second half pressure if they were to entertain any hopes of salvaging a result against bottom of the table Rovers.

They did just that on 53 minutes - Carson poking the ball home from close range after Rovers had failed to clear the danger from a low cross from the left by Martin.

Town pulled a second goal back in added time - Chopra heading home from Emmanuel-Thomas’ right wing cross.

But Rovers managed to hold on for their first win in six games.
