FULL TIME: PORT VALE 2 ROTHERHAM 0

ROTHERHAM looking for the right response after last week, could certainly have picked a less difficult task and so it proved with Marc Richards notching a double for the home side.

Port Vale were among those strongly fancied to be right up with the promotion front runners.

Millers manager Andy Scott reckons they will be in the final shake-up and he knows plenty about his rival manager Micky Adams - he was signed by him when Adams was in charge at Brentford.

“Micky knows what he wants from his players and if they don’t deliver then he lets them know,” said Scott.

Last night’s result in League Two won’t have made Rotherham followers feel any happier about last week but perhaps they don’t feel as bad after Southend confirmed their credentials with a 3-0 win over a Shrewsbury side who, apparently, have been impressive lately.

It was a glorious afternoon as Revell earned Rotherham a first minute corner. Schofield’s cross was plucked out of the air by Tomlinson who conceded five against the Millers reserves last week.

It had been a decent start from Rotherham but on 17 minutes they found themselves behind.

Revell headed away a corner. But the ball was lifted back and it was Revell who fouled Taylor just outside the area. RICHARDS took the free kick, struck it low and it seemed to go under Logan and just rolled over the line right in front of the agonised Millers.Worse was to follow for the Millers when they went two down eight minutes later.

A huge kick from the keeper saw Pope nod across and into the area. RICHARDS was quickest to it and he lifted the ball past Logan as the keeper came out to challenge.

After their problems over conceding goals recently, this was the worst possible start for Rotherham and they faced a real uphill battle.

Vale had been second best up to the first goal. But, now two up, they were looking more assured and threatening.
