ANDY Scott’s Rotherham, held at home by Barnet last Saturday, responded with victory over Gillingham, just hours after Adam Le Fondre signed for Reading in a deal believed to be worth around £500,000.

Reading, who were among the clubs to inquire about Alf last January, stiffened their interest significantly this week and agreed a deal with the Millers. Reading- who have just sold striker Shane Long for £4.5m to West Brom - are likely to have offered a substantial sum up front.

Rotherham landed Le Fondre from Rochdale two years ago for £125,000 but there was a sizeable sell-on clause in that deal of around 20 per cent for the Lancashire club.

Speculation surfaced about Reading’s interest yesterday but neither club would comment then on the situation or confirm that he was discussing personal terms and having a medical.

“I have always said that Alf would go with our blessing and, hopefully, he’ll do very well at a higher level and prove to us what a good player he is and show everyone he can score goals higher up, too. He’s been absolutely first class for me,” said manager Scott.

On 53 minutes the Millers were in front when Schofield showed lovely skill to turn Martin inside out and back again before delivering to the far post where HARRISON timed his climb to perfection to send his header back across goal and just under the bar. on 63 minutes excellent work in midfield saw Harrison find Bradley who slipped GRABBAN into the area and he fired a low right footer beyond the keeper. Rotherham’s splendid second half deserved the third goal on 76 minutes EVANS firing home from 12 yards following Marshall’s low centre.
