Sweet Revenge as Millers go second

LEWIS Grabban bagged two goals as Rotherham United went second in the League Two table.

Gareth Evans and Dagenham’s Scott Doe also registered in an action packed first half.

In the last meeting between the Millers and Dagenham and Redbridge, it was the London outfit who came out on top, winning 3-2 in the League Two Play-Off final nearly 17 months ago.

It sealed promotion to the third tier of English football for the Daggers and, although they dropped out of the division after just one year, it remains a remarkable achievement for John Still and his side to ply their trade at that level.

United’s early pressure paid off after four minutes when Evans broke the deadlock. He rifled home a Marshall cross to claim his second goal in as many home matches.

Out of nothing, Doe equalised in the 21st minute, rising highest to nod in Tomlin’s corner. Tonge tried in desperation to prevent the ball from going in on the line but to no avail.

Moments later, Scannell had a penalty claim turned down as the Daggers started to turn the screw. Indeed, the lively Tomlin missed a gilt edged opportunity to put them in front in the 26th minute after outmuscling Cresswell in the area but his shot was well blocked by Logan.

But yet again, Marshall proved the difference. He provided a pin point cross on the right and it was glanced in by Grabban.

It got even better for the home faithful when the industrious Evans robbed Ogogo in the right-back berth and fed Grabban and the nippy attacker turned sharply before unleashing an unstoppable effort into the bottom corner seven minutes before the interval.

The second half produced no more goals, but the 3,000-plus Rotherham fans went home delighted as United’s manager of the month for August Andy Scott celebrated another victory.
