All-time Sheffield United great Tony Currie has urged fans angered by Danny Wilson’s appointment to give the new boss an even break.
Former England midfielder Currie is convinced Wilson is the man to give Bramall Lane an image makeover - and change the club’s reputation for functional, fighting football back to the passing style he embodied as a player in the 1970s.
The Blades legend, who still works for the club as a community leader, believes Wilson’s Hillsborough links are irrelevant.
Currie said: “I’ve lived in this city for 32 years so I do understand the rivalry. But you’ve got to remember it’s 11 years since Danny was Wednesday manager.
“People forget that I wore the blue-and-white stripes once for Mel Sterland’s testimonial game!
“Danny loves to play good football and we haven’t seen a lot of that here lately. I think he’ll bring a better way of playing and a better sort of footballer. Let’s back him and give him a chance.”
