Sheffield FC: Fans and club alike are demanding wins

Club continued their climb up the table with another productive week on the road following up last weekend’s 5-0 win at Market Drayton Town with a 1-1 draw at Gresley FC on Tuesday.

It means during their time away from home they have remained unbeaten picking up eight points from 12 lifting them to 13th in Division One South.

Manager James Colliver admits the good run of away form will bring added pressure on Saturday.

“It does put that bit extra pressure on us because people will expect us to carry on at home. Everyone at the club wants us to be successful from the Chairman to the players, supporters and all the management and coaching staff, we’re all in this together and pulling in the same direction.

There’s a lot of belief in the whole squad and a lot of togetherness, which is beginning to show in the results.

“It will be another challenge for us against Chasetown. They’re going well, up at the top end of the table, but it’s one we’ll be prepared for. We might be forced into a shuffle at the back though because centre half Corbin Shires picked up a nasty knee injury at Gresley.”

Colliver, reflecting on two different performances over the past week, added: “I thought against Market Drayton we could have had double figures, our attacking play was that good. Alec Denton was denied two or three time by their keeper so I was pleased when he got his goal has he had worked his socks off for 90 minutes.

“On Tuesday at Gresley the lads had to show a different mentality. It was an awful night on a poor pitch. They scored after Chris Butt had made a tremendous save from a free-kick. It was all us in the second half but it didn’t look like we were going to get anything then Lee Cooksey hit one in the net from 25-yards in the last minute. It looked like it might take a bit of class to get a point but it was no more than we had deserved.”

Colliver was full of praise for his new assistant manager Dave Middleton said: “Dave’s been a key part of the run we have been on with his positivity and enthusiasm. He has vast experience of the Evo-stik league. Players respect him and listen to what he has to say.”

Connor Hall’s loan from Sheffield United has been extended by a further two months - Club are also hoping to extend the loan of fullback Tom Rose from Rotherham United.

Chasetown arrive in good form having won five out of the last six league games with their only defeat coming in a 2-1 reversal at lowly Stamford.

For the rest of the local teams its FA Trophy weekend and the second qualifying round.

Stocksbridge Park Steels are at Kidsgrove Athletic where Chris Hilton’s side will be aiming to end a run of three defeats on the spin.

The two teams met in the league at the Novus Stadium just last month when late goals from Harrison Biggins and Joe Lumsden saw Steels run out 2-1 winners, a result Hilton would be more than delighted to settle for once more.

Shaw Lane AFC host Premier Division leaders Whitby Town where the Ducks will be aiming to make it 10 wins on the spin in all competitions. Matlock Town go to Grantham Town in an all Evo-Stik Premier Division clash, while Buxton host Southern League King’s Lynn Town.
