Sheffield FC Ladies midfielder Hannah Dale admitted it was a bitter pill to swallow as their nine-game unbeaten run in the league, dating back to May, came to a halt with a 1-0 FA WSL 2 home defeat to London Bees.
Jo Wilson’s first-half strike sealed the points for the visitors. Sheffield left-back Ellie Gilliatt had the ball in the net just minutes before the final whistle but was adjudged to be offside.
Dale said: “We beat the Bees 5-0 when we played them away so this is even more disappointing, we just couldn’t take our chances when we got into good areas.
“Ellie (Gilliatt)’s goal was a close decision, on another day it might have been given and we’d be stood here talking about a different result, that’s just football I suppose.
“It feels like we’ve lost ground as we were on the same points as the Bees before the game, and with two away games in a row coming up it would have been ideal to pick something up from today’s game.
“There are four games left and 12 points to play for and we will be fighting for every single one, we’ll just take each game as it comes and we’ll see where we end up at the end of the season.”
