The Sheffield Wednesday boss has been working tirelessly to bring in three new attacking players following a summer of change at the club.

At the time of writing the Owls have had a second bid for Rotherham striker Adam Le Fondre turned down after their initial £200,000 offer was quickly rejected by the Millers.

The transfer rumours around the club have been spinning into hyper-drive during the last few weeks after it became increasingly likely that Neil Mellor will not be returning to Hillsborough, following a successful loan spell last season from Preston North End.

In recent weeks Norwich City’s Cody McDonald, Chris Wood at West Brom and Rochdale’s Chris O’Grady have all been linked with moves to Hillsborough, but nothing has materialised.

Wednesday have also reportedly made an approach to sign on loan Arsenal youngster Benik Afobe, who had a spell with Huddersfield Town last season. However, it is thought the Gunners are keen for the forward to make the step-up to a Championship club, following his stint in League One in the last campaign.

Megson’s attacking prowess has also been hampered by the news that Jermaine Johnson will miss the start of the season after suffering cartilage damage in the pre-season draw against Stoke City last week.
