ONE TO WATCH
Former AZ Alkmaar winger Johann Berg Gudmundsson netted 11 times for the Addicks last season, finishing runner-up in their Player of the Season award. His impressive form culminated in him earning a four-year contract over the summer. The 24-year-old attacker has found the back of the net twice this season. Gudmundsson is also a regular starter for his country, helping Iceland qualify for the 2016 European Championships in France.
Owls have failed to win any of their last five meetings with Charlton. Their last victory came at the Valley in January 2013 when they claimed a 2-1 success after late strikes by popular defender Reda Johnson and striker Leroy Lita. Both tussles ended in 1-1 draws last season, with Charlton playmaker Johann Berg Gudmundsson denying Wednesday maximum points in the most recent clash at Hillsborough, cancelling out Caolan Lavery’s first half opener.
MAN IN THE MIDDLE
Gavin Ward: It is Ward’s ninth season on the Football League list and the Surrey-based official will take charge of his 12th match of this season.
Ward has issued 32 bookings and just one red card.
