Defensive duo could be of interest to Owls boss

Sheffield Wednesday could explore the possibility of signing either Matt Kilgallon or Sean St Ledger, especially if defender Miguel Llera departs Hillsborough.

Kilgallon, the former Sheffield United defender, has been released by Premier League side Sunderland, while St Ledger, who was due to feature in the Republic of Ireland’s friendly with England at Wembley last night, has been told he has no future at Leicester City.

Owls boss Dave Jones is braced for a busy off-season, as he scours the globe for players he believes are capable of playing in the Championship.

Wednesday, meanwhile, are expected to shortly announce a pre-season friendly against Scottish giants Rangers.

The game is pencilled in for July 24 - the birthday of Wednesday’s former Ibrox midfielder Rhys McCabe.
