Sheffield Wednesday made the long trip to the South Coast but it was no cherry-picking time after being beaten 2-0.

The Owls were without new signing Chris O’Grady because of a heel injury and Gary Megson started with Morrison and Madine up front, and were expected to be a threat by home boss Lee Bradbury,

The rumour beforehand was that striker Steve Howard was coming to Hillsborouogh after Leicester said that he could go out on loan.

Morrison made the first half chance of the game, rolling the ball back to Palmer just inside the box and his left foot shot went over the bar.

But much of the opening stages was like the weather - warm but dull.

A final ball from Madine went straight to the keeper which had Megson shaking his head.

But the Owls were quick to show organisation and strength when Bournemouth were in possession.

The home side took the lead after 38 minutes when from a corner centre half Barrett rose above Jones to bullet in a header.

Lines came on for Palmer two minutes short of the hour mark and was soon involved, making forward runs.

But the game was settled six minutes from time when sub Arter latched on to a ball played in from the right and drove a low shot from Weaver from 12 yards range.
