MAKE no mistake, Morecambe’s players will stand out from the crowd on Sunday.
Every member of the Shrimps squad and backroom staff are growing moustaches in support of Movember, the aim of the campaign is to raise funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostrate cancer and other cancers that affect males.
Should the League Two outfit reach the £500 mark before their FA Cup first round clash with Sheffield Wednesday, left winger Kevin Ellison is set to dye his hair red because of his lack of facial hair.
Morecambe centre-back Nick Fenton, formerly of Rotherham United, told The Star: “We decided about three weeks ago that we were going to do it. It is a good bit of banter. It is for a worthy cause and it shows the team spirit we have got here. We are all working together and behind it.
“We are going to feel a little bit stupid with the taches but we will forget about it when the game starts.
“We have been walking around with them for a week already so we are getting used to the stick!”
It was Fenton, released by the Millers last summer, who hit a stun-ning injury-time equaliser, his third goal of the season, to help Morecambe draw 1-1 at basement battlers Plymouth last weekend.
Like Fenton, Ellison also swapped Rotherham for Morecambe and the forward has been a revelation, hitting eight goals in 17 appearances.
“Kev is flying at the moment,” said Fenton.
“He has been given a new lease of life by coming here.”
