Monday’s transfer deadline may have passed without significant activity at Hillsborough - but Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones expects to be significantly busier when the window opens again for loan business next week.
The Owls, without a game this weekend due to the international break, were unable to create sufficient space in their wage budget to bring in a player ahead of Monday evening’s deadline.
Chairman Milan Mandaric, however, has said previously in these pages that a quiet summer transfer window was anticipated, and that the loan market would provide Owls fans with more encouragement.
Jones is known to be chasing another striker, despite the loan arrival of Andelko Savic from Sampdoria.
And, despite Jordan Spence’s temporary arrival from West Ham, Jones will also investigate the possibility of drafting in a centre-half if captain Anthony Gardner’s injury, which saw him carried off against Middlesbrough, is as bad as first feared.
