Stuart Gray made three changes at Nottingham Forest to the side that started last Friday’s clash at Leicester - and the changes looked like paying dividends when they went 3-1 up.

But they could not sustain the advantage and had to settle for a point, after a full blooded 3-3 tie.

Wednesday will feel they lost a real opportunity at the City Ground.

Caolan Lavery had missed out in addition to injured centre halves Glenn Loovens and Oguchi Onyewu.

Giles Coke started as expected, in midfield, as did Miguel Llera, at centre back; Liam Palmer was switched to right back and Lewis Buxton to centre half, while Jeremy Helan came in for Lavery.

Wednesday were hoping to consolidate their mid-table position at Forest - a team that beat them at Hillsborough, in December.

Forest, who started the evening one place outside the Play Off zone have underperformed recently. And Wednesday exposed them early on.

Chris Maguire slotted home a penalty with a right footed shot to the top right corner on 15 minutes, after the striker was upended by Danny Collins.

Giles Coke could have added another before the game descended into a foul-strewn period.

Eight minutes before half time, Jamie Paterson forced a save from Chris Kirland.

And the home side levelled just before the break, Jamie Mackie (heading to the top right corner after a move featuring Paterson.

Yet Owls bit back, straight away, Lewis Buxton heading home following a corner.

Then on the other side of the break, it was suddenly 3-1 for the Owls.

Joe Mattock (Sheffield Wednesday) left footed home from outside the box to the bottom right corner. Maguire was again involved in the build up.

Leon Best had a couple of half chances as Wednesday continued on the front foot.

And Jeremy Helan could have added to the tally too.

But Forest managed to get a foothold back in the game, when Marcus Tudgay, the former Wednesday star, headed home on 76 minutes.

And Jamie Paterson levelled though from a free kick with three minutes remaining - even though team-mate Danny Collins had been redcarded a few minutes earlier.
