It is possible that the inquest into the deaths of the 96 at Hillsborough may result in criticism of the actions of our club 25 years ago, but no-one could attack the club for recent actions concerning those tragic events, writes Steve Walmsley.
Putting 96 new white seats in the Lower West Stand, and individually marking them with red roses and the name of one of the 96, was a really nice touch as part of a poignant remembrance of those people and their families.
They have always to be remembered and the truth has to see the light of day.
During the game that followed. we saw more of the recent defending that has seen us ship goals galore. Blackburn were not that good and we simply gift-wrapped a 3-1 lead in a nice little bow.
But full credit to the team for effort and energy and to Stuart Gray for some positive substitutions that got us the point we definitely deserved over the 90 minutes.
And I have to say that Nuhiu had his best game in a Wednesday shirt, not just for the fact that he scored twice, but for the fact that the commitment that is typical of him was added to decent link play.
If he keeps that up, he might prove me and few others wrong, and I hope he does.
So, we reached 50 points and while it’s not mathematical safety, I can’t really see one of the bottom three and then the teams between them and us all producing results that would leave us in danger.
Sixty points should still be a target for us, even if it’s a big ask.
We have to go into the Easter games looking for wins and a bit of revenge for the cup defeat to Charlton.
