Have your say

Our little boy has chicken pox. We’ve had a few days of feeling that no matter what we do we can’t settle him, he gets frustrated and we’re not finding a combination of medications that will make him better.

In the nicest possible way I feel like this about Sheffield Wednesday not being able to beat Burton Albion at a game of football.

Not that I’m calling the Brewers a virus or the pox, just a stubborn all out defence that we can’t seem to penetrate. Carlos Carvalhal’s side have been frustrated twice this season by Burton because they’ve figured out if you throw every man behind the ball against us we have no creative answer (other than another relative tap in from Ross Wallace).

Good for Burton though. They’ve found a way to contain us and the Owls don’t have a cure for it. That’s how they’ll survive in this league by playing smartly.

It’s interesting though that ‘playing ugly’ brings praise for teams for like Burton but we have had some less than asthetic wins this season and somehow we’re deemed to be above that style of play.

I’ll hold my hands up and say I think with the squad we have we should have more flair but this is the Championship and maybe you have to do what’s necessary and ugly to get a result.

Let’s prescribe calamine lotion for the slight irritation of Tuesday evening and a dose of the Norwich City performance for our trip away to Aston Villa on Saturday.

It was inevitable that of all the relegated Premier League teams Villa would be the one that suffered the most because of the culture shock of the Championship. Newcastle kept their squad and manager, Norwich are seasoned yo-yoers but Villa just appeared shell-shocked. They’re 17 points behind the Owls in 15th place and they have only won three matches in 2017.

It seems Villa haven’t found a remedy for being a Championship team yet.
