Jose Semedo reckons Sheffield Wednesday have got the best squad in the Championship as they look to maintain their superb form.
The midfielder, who is expected to keep his place in the Owls’ starting line-up with Sam Hutchinson ruled out due to suspension, made the admission ahead of tomorrow’s clash at Blackburn Rovers.
Carlos Carvalhal’s men go to Ewood Park, having tasted just one defeat in their last 13 outings. They sit in eighth position, one point adrift of the play-off positions and Semedo believes they are well equipped to figure in the promotion race.
He told The Star: “We have a huge squad; it is the best that I have been involved in in five seasons here. We might not have the best eleven but we have the best squad. I think that will make the difference when we get to around March and April time.”
The Portuguese player claimed Wednesday’s three substitutes against Huddersfield Town: Lucas Joao, Gary Hooper and Lewis McGugan swung the Yorkshire derby dramatically their way. Semedo, who recently launched his book ‘Win The Day’, says the Owls underlined their strength in depth earlier this campaign, citing the Capital One Cup win over Newcastle United and goalless draw at Queens Park Rangers as examples.
“We made 10 changes in both games against Newcastle and QPR and came away with positive results; I don’t see many other teams doing that,” he said. “QPR were relegated from the Premier League last season but the manager changed the majority of the team and we were still the better side and could have won the game.”
