Sheffield Wednesday striker Lucas Joao has capped a superb few months since moving to Hillsborough by becoming a full Portuguese international.
The towering forward came off the bench for Portugal for the final 18 minutes of their friendly clash in Russia.
Joao failed to inspire his side to victory as they were beaten 1-0 win a last minute Russian goal.
But the disappointment will be short-lived for the 22-year-old who has been rewarded for his excellent form since joining the Owls from Nacional in July.
He has a chance to win a second cap when Portugal travel to Luxembourg on Tuesday.
Wednesday team mate Daniel Pudil was also in international action at the weekend and played a key role in the Czech Republic’s 4-1 win in a friendly with Serbia.
Pudil delivered a corner which Tomas Sivok headed home to open the scoring and was also brought down for a penalty which was scored by Tomas Necid.
The 30-year-old played the full 90 minutes, winning his first cap for his national team in 12 months. Czech Republic play Poland tomorrow.
Owls keeper Joe Wildsmith will be hoping to make his England U21 debut this afternoon in the Euro 2017 qualifier against Switzerland at Brighton’s Amex Stadium.
