CHRIS Lines believes that Wednesday’s hopes of automatic promotion could rise this Saturday.
The midfield man feels that the rivalry between the Sheffield clubs can take a new twist with United away to MK Dons and the Owls at home to Carlisle.
“Some people are jumping too far ahead and thinking we’re going to be in the play-offs,” said Lines.
“Sheffield United have tough games; so do we. They’re away on Saturday to MK Dons, who are on fire; we are at home, where we’ve been winning all season and we’ll go into our game with confidence.
“United have got Stevenage after that; obviously we’ve got a tough one as well, at Brenford.
“We’ve been changing places all season - we’ve cut the gap before and hopefully we can do it again.”
If United lose on Saturday and Wednesday win, then the Owls will be a point behind, with two games left.
Lines added: “The pressure is on them to keep winning.
“I take my hat off to them; they’ve been winning every game. If they do that to the end of the season, they deserve to go up.
“Our form over the last couple of months has been tremendous. We beat United in the derby and we haven’t lost under the new gaffer. We’re 10 points clear of the fourth-placed team. Whoever finishes third is going to be unlucky.”
Lines admits that the play-offs can be a “lottery” but says if Wednesday do finish third then they should have a strong chance of going up via that route.
“But I’m focused on trying to win automatic promotion,” he added. “I think we have shown in the last couple of months we’re the best team in the league.
“It takes a good team to stop us: we have shown that this season in the two games against United, and against Charlton - they were lucky to win at our place - and we totally outplayed Huddersfield.”
