Stuart Gray has revealed how highly the Owls rate keeper Cameron Dawson and welcomed his call-up to the England Under 19 squad.
With Dawson named for three European Championship qualifiers, starting against Montenegro at Walsall today, his manager told The Star: “It’s fantastic for Cameron and the club.
“We have high hopes of him, and it’s why we let Arron Jameson and Adam Davies go; we didn’t want to block him.
“It was bad news for those two lads but it shows how we value Cameron. Hopefully he’ll kick on and get better; keepers improve as they mature. Cameron had a little loan spell at Plymouth; unfortunately he didn’t get any minutes of football but even being on their bench helped to give him experience and knowledge and the mentality he’s going to need for when he’s needed in the first team.”
England U-19s’ squad includes another keeper, Brighton’s Christian Walton.
Gray said that Wednesday are still playing a “waiting game” over out-of-contract players and potential new signings.
Hull, as expected, are holding talks with Owls target Matty Fryatt about a new contract.
