Sheffield Wednesday: Gray delight over loan deals

Owls manager Stuart Gray is pleased to have hung on to loan players Sam Hutchinson and Leon Best.

Gray also awaits confirmation of a longer stay for Adedeji Oshilaja but Gary Gardner has been sent back to Aston Villa because fellow midfield players Kieran Lee and David Prutton are both fit.

Chelsea midfielder Hutchinson has had his loan extended to April 9, while Blackburn striker Best is now due to remain at Hillsborough for the rest of the season.

Cardiff midfielder or defender Oshilaja is not fit for tomorrow’s game against Birmingham because of a toe injury but Gray hopes that clearance of an extended loan for him will arrive shortly.

Jacques Maghoma’s knee ligament injury could keep him out for weeks, as the club await the results of a scan. Gray said that he is in a lot of pain.

Chris Kirkland is fit and looks set to return tomorrow.

Joe Mattock is likely to rejoin full training on Sunday, ahead of next Tuesday’s visit of QPR.

Gray added that Reda Johnson is nowhere near to a return.

The Owls boss said it was pleasing that Best and Hutchinson wanted to stay.

He added: “Unfortunately we have sent Gary Gardner back because we have David Prutton and Kieran Lee coming back. But I’m delighted we have re-signed Sam and Leon, hopefully Deji as well - we are awaiting confirmation on him.”
