Dave Jones has dispelled fears about Roger Johnson’s fitness and sounded the all-clear for Saturday’s clash with Reading.

Johnson was a star performer in the Owls’ draw at Barnsley but needed a fitness test beforehand and appeared to be feeling a hamstring problem near the end.

It would be huge blow to lose a defender who was already short of match practice when he arrived on loan from Wolves but has been making a big impression.

But Jones revealed: “Roger is all right. He felt a bit tight last week but it was just a muscle spasm. It would take a broken leg to make him come off or stop him from playing.”

Jones also disclosed that there was some uncertainty about Matty Fryatt before his loan was extended: “We’re pleased to have him; Hull can recall him at 24 hours’ notice, which isn’t ideal, but at one stage we thought we might not be able to prolong the loan.

“His goal at Barnsley was a reflection of his growing match sharpness.”
