OWLS manager Dave Jones and winger Michail Antonio have both been nominated for Football League awards - a double boost for the club, says captain Rob Jones.

Wednesday have won five games and drawn one and revived their challenge for automatic promotion since Jones was appointed.

Antonio has been a star performer and has already won the Owls’ own Player of the Month award for March.

He is shortlisted for the League One monthly award, and Jones is nominated in the manager category.

Skipper Jones told The Star: “The nominations show the club in a very good light.

“The gaffer has come in and done very well, and made our style of play completely different. Michail made his debut against Sheffield United, which is a difficult game to play in.

“He’s gone from strength to strength; the majority of our forward play goes through him at the minute. He’s a big, powerful lad. The nominations are both deserved accolades and it’s fantastic news for the club.”

The award winners will be announced on Friday. The other League One manager nominations are Ronnie Moore (Tranmere) and Greg Abbott (Carlisle). The other player contenders are Ched Evans (Sheffield United) and Stewart Beavon (Wycombe).

Rob Jones and keeper Stephen Bywater drew a crowd when they met fans and signed autographs on a visit to the Meadowhall branch of travel agent Thomas Cook, who offer discount to Wednesday supporters.

Meanwhile, the claim that Preston players told Wednesday of their line-up for last Saturday’s game has been followed by Dave Jones laughing off the affair and saying: “It’s not worth commenting on.”
