Owls chairman Milan Mandaric has welcomed a ‘financially significant’ shirt sponsorship deal secured via owner-in-waiting Hafiz Mammadov.
While the club have kept tight-lipped on the exact figures of the deal with the Azerbaijan Land of Fire brand run by Mammadov, the Star understand it will bring a financial boost of well into six figures for Wednesday.
“We are absolutely delighted to announce Azerbaijan Land of Fire as the club’s new shirt sponsor,” Mandaric said.
“Sheffield Wednesday will gain major added value through this exciting partnership, as will the country of Azerbaijan.
“Brand association with the likes of RC Lens and Atletico Madrid takes us into new territory.
“I look forward to seeing the players wearing the shirts for what both parties are sure will be a memorable season ahead.”
The club insist the deal is independent of Mammadov’s pending takeover of the club, something they say it is hoped will be completed over the next few weeks.
Mammadov has brought the Land of Fire branding to the other clubs in which he has invested, including Spanish champions Atletico Madrid and French side RC Lens, both of whom will have the sponsor for the coming season.
He said: “This is a very proud day for myself and my country.
“To marry ‘Azerbaijan Land of Fire’ to a club with the history and heritage of Sheffield Wednesday in English football is the perfect match.”
