Sheffield Wednesday fans will get their first glimpse of defender Tom Lees in this afternoon’s pre-season friendly at Barnsley, kick-off 1pm.
The 23-year-old, signed from Leeds United for an undisclosed fee earlier this week, will line up at the heart of the Owls’ rearguard in their final warm-up match.
“I’ve done a full pre-season at Leeds but I haven’t really played or got as many minutes as I would have liked,” Lees, who has agreed a three-year deal with the Hillsborough outfit, told The Star. “I’m lacking maybe a few minutes but hopefully I will get chance to get some minutes under my belt before the start of the season.”
With just a week to go until the start of the new Championship season, Wednesday head coach Stuart Gray is unlikely to risk midfielder Jose Semedo at Oakwell.
Keiren Westwood and Kieran Lee are expected to play some part in the friendly but Gray may choose to field several youngsters given Wednesday’s lengthy injury list.
Owls development squad drew 1-1 with Harrogate Town on Thursday night, with Glenn Law on target. They host Hull at Middlewood Road on Monday.
