Atdhe Nuhiu is under no illusions that he faces a battle to lead the Owls’ forward line next season.

It is no secret Wednesday are seeking to strengthen their strikeforce ahead of the 2015/16 campaign, which gets underway two weeks tomorrow.

The Owls were one of the lowest-scoring teams in the Championship last term but head coach Carlos Carvalhal has promised a more attack-minded approach to rectify their deficiencies in front of goal.

Wednesday currently have four recognised centre-forwards at their disposal in Nuhiu, Stevie May, Sergiu Bus and Caolan Lavery but Carvalhal has yet to give any indication who will start at home to Bristol City on the opening day.

Nuhiu topped the Owls’ goal-scoring charts last season, netting 11 goals in all competitions, but was frequently criticised for his lack of composure in the final third.

“I think competition makes you better and makes you prove yourself in training every day,” he said. “That’s what brings you results.”

The big striker, preparing to embark on his third season at the Championship club, is convinced they are well equipped to push on.

He said: “I have really enjoyed being at this club and I always give everything. With the fans behind us, we can achieve a lot more this year.

“Everyone in the squad wants to achieve something and put the club back where it belongs. I believe it can be a great season.”
