Sheffield Wednesday: Owls edge closer to safety with ‘fair’ result

Dave Jones has praised his Wednesday team for collecting a point at Blackpool last night but slammed the Seasiders’ pitch, calling it a “disgrace”.

The Owls boss likened the surface to a beach and felt that it hampered both sides.

“I felt for both teams because you’re not only playing each other, you’re playing the pitch,” he said.

“I thought probably a point was a fair result. We started the brightest, they got back into, we came back into it.

“I felt that who ever made the first mistake was going to pay the penalty for it, but thankfully we didn’t.

“We had three great chances in the first seven minutes but I think a lot of that was down to mistakes, the ball bobbling about.

“On another day they go in, but I think a point is a fair result.”

“The best way to describe it is as a good, professional job by us.”

The Owls also went close to victory in stoppage time when a shot by sub Chris Maguire was well saved.
