IT could be a busy week in the transfer market for Sheffield Wednesday as they look to bring in several new players.
The club were working on a deal until late last night to secure the signature of another player after their success this week with former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland.
Wednesday didn’t announce, as is club policy, who they were talking to, but The Star understands it isn’t one of Dave Jones’ more high profile targets.
One of those at the top of Jones’ list is winger Michail Antonio, who had a successful loan spell at the end of the season. Discussions between the Owls and parent club Reading are on-going.
The Star understands Reading are willing to offload Antonio if they receive an offer marginally higher than one of a reported £350,000.
Relationships between the two clubs are strong with a pre-season match in Vilamoura, Portugal, on July 24 further strengthening the links from South Yorkshire to Berkshire.
Wednesday players are due to report back to their Middlewood Road training base on July 10 with a Fun Day in Hillsborough Park planned for July 14.
More details of their Portugal trip will be revealed next week.
