SHEFFIELD Wednesday are considering an early return to Hillsborough for Mark Beevers to help them through their injury problems.
He is due to remain at Millwall until January but can be recalled immediately if necessary.
The Owls are considering their options because of a doubt about centre half Anthony Gardner.
It is understood that the hamstring injuries suffered by Gardner and right back Lewis Buxton in the 4-1 defeat by Watford on Tuesday are not as serious as first feared.
But if Gardner is ruled out of Sunday’s match at Cardiff - as seems likely - or sidelined for any length of time, it will leave Wednesday down to two fit senior centre halves, Martin Taylor and Miguel Llera. Taylor went on for Gardner on Tuesday. Beevers has made 10 appearances for Millwall. He was allowed to join them in October initially for a month so he could stay match fit but the deal was extended until January. The Lions are at home to Charlton tomorrow.
Gardner and Buxton have both had spells out of the side this season because of hamstring injuries.
Another lay-off for Buxton could mean a recall for Kieran Lee or Joe Mattock at right back. Jermaine Johnson was sent on as a sub in the position during the Watford game.
The switch was unpopular with some sections of the crowd but Dave Jones had no specialist right back on the bench, and Johnson has experience of filling the role - something that may even bring him into contention for a start there at the Cardiff City Stadium.
