Roger Johnson completed his move to Sheffield Wednesday yesterday and instantly set about proving he will be ready for the call from Dave Jones if it comes this weekend.
He could hardly have a greater incentive as next up for the Owls are Johnson’s former club Birmingham City where the 30-year-old defender played a starring role in the 2011 Carling Cup Final win over Arsenal.
Johnson, on loan from Wolves until January, hasn’t played this season - he wasn’t even given a squad number at Molineux by boss Kenny Jackett.
Boss Jones has said that with the defender not having played this season, he has to work on his fitness and then get playing. Depending on how he shapes up, the Owls boss would then have to weigh up if he considers him ready to go straight in at St.Andrews where he left two years ago in a £4m move to Wolves.
“We are pleased that Roger is here because he is a fantastic talent,” said Jones.
“I know the lad well, he did fantastic for me when I was at Cardiff, he is a very good player and we have been given the opportunity to bring him here and are grateful for that.”
