Goalkeeper Lee Grant has warned his Derby teammates not to take his former side Sheffield Wednesday lightly ahead of this afternoon’s encounter at Hillsborough.

The 31-year-old, who played 145 times for the Owls before moving to Burnley for a fee estimated to be around £1m in 2010, is looking forward to the Championship clash.

Grant, an ever-present in the Derby side who reached the Play-Off final last year, said: “They are always good occasions when we play Sheffield Wednesday. They bring a good following down here, and we always take a good following to Hillsborough.

“The Wednesday fans travel in their numbers everywhere, and we are no different. It is one of those grounds where the atmosphere is always good.

“I spent three good years at the club, so I know about the ground and the fans. The relationship I had with the Wednesday fans was second-to-none, and they always make me feel very welcome when I go back.

“It will be a difficult game on Saturday and we will need to be ready and up for the challenge because Wednesday have started well, and had a good end to pre-season so it will be a tough afternoon for us.

“Stuart Gray has had more time with his squad. It seems from the outside looking in that the players are buying in to what he is trying to do, and he is a good coach.

“Given time, he is going to produce results.”
