Sheffield Wednesday bolstered their defence just hours after Saturday’s defeat to table-topping Nottingham Forest, capturing Claude Dielna on a free transfer.
The Frenchman, who can be deployed at centre-back or left-back, has agreed a three-year deal, subject to international clearance,
The 26-year-old, linked with a host of Premier League and Championship clubs last season, recently left Greek giants Olympiakos. Dielna has previously represented French clubs Lorient, Istres, Sedan and Ajaccio in his career, lifting the French National title with Istres.
Dielna tweeted: “Thanks for the warm welcome. I am very happy to be here and I will always give 100 per cent.”
Former Owls defender Reda Johnson congratulated his friend Dielna on the move to Hillsborough and tweeted: “He doesn’t know yet but he’s just signed for a big, big club.”
Wednesday needed cover at centre-back with Dejan Kelhar ruled out until next year and skipper Glenn Loovens set to miss the trip to Bolton Wanderers after the two-week international break, having collected five bookings. Loovens will serve an automatic one-match suspension, meaning Dielna could be plunged straight into the starting line-up in Lancashire.
