Harry Redknapp, the Queens Park Rangers manager, is looking forward to facing close pals Dave Jones and Milan Mandaric on the opening day of the 2013/14 season.

QPR, relegated from the Premier League last term, welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Loftus Road on August 3 aiming to begin their Championship campaign on a positive note.

Redknapp worked with Owls chairman Mandaric at Portsmouth on two separate occasions and he has described the businessman and Jones as two “big characters” in the sport.

He said: “I’m good friends with Dave and Milan and I’m looking forward to seeing them both. I wish them all the best for the season – after the opening day!

“They’re both big characters in the game and Sheffield Wednesday are a massive club with a huge following.

“I saw them beat Millwall towards the end of last season and Dave’s got them playing some good football.

“The pitch has been re-laid and I’m sure the QPR fans will be there in great numbers so it’s a game I’m really looking forward to.”
