Stuart Gray has set the Owls a target of finishing the season as the Championship’s top Yorkshire side.

The Wednesday head coach refuses to entertain suggestions his side have nothing to play for with ten games of the campaign remaining.

The Owls are 13 points – and five places – off sixth spot and 18 points clear of the relegation zone.

But Gray says he has a list of targets for his squad – and being Yorkshire’s number one Championship outfit is on it.

Wednesday currently sit two points ahead of Leeds, seven points ahead of Huddersfield and nine in front of next weekend’s opponents Rotherham.

“The players have the challenge of beating the points total of last season,” Gray told the Star.

“They have the challenge of being the highest finishing Yorkshire team in the league as well.

“And there’s the challenge of their being 30 points remaining up for grabs and going for all of them.

“Our challenge, until it’s mathematically impossible, is to push for that sixth spot.

“We’re at the back end of the season and we’ve got to put points on in threes.

“If that means going for it, we’ll go for it.

“We are in a good run of form but we want to carry it on.

“There are 30 points to go for so let’s go for it.”
