Former Wednesday star Rodger Wylde has recruited Chris Waddle for his testimonial evening.

Waddle is booked for a second-half outing in an Owls shirt when Wylde’s big night takes place at Stockport County on Tuesday, July 9.

The match is being billed as a football festival rather than a routine pre-season friendly.

Stockport will field against Wednesday a line=up comprising players from their heyday, in the first half, and a current County XI in the second half.

The match marks physio Wylde’s 25 years of service to Stockport and will coincide with the launch of his book, which includes stories from his Hillsborough days.

He worked with Dave Jones when the current Wednesday boss served County initially as youth team coach, then reserves coach, first-team coach, assistant boss and manager.

Wylde’s book, Wylde Man of Football - Dressing Room Banter, will include stories of his playing days at Hillsborough and other clubs.

After breaking through in the Seventies he scored 66 goals for the Owls, including 56 in a three-season spell.

Wylde, who has also set up a website,, told The Star: “My match will be the first pre-season game, so no player is likely to play for more than 45 minutes. It will be more a relaxed evening, for the players to show their skills, and Chris Waddle will be making his final appearance for Wednesday, in the second half.”
