Dave Jones is the best man for the job of leading Sheffield Wednesday back to the Premier League, according to promotion expert Neil Warnock.
The former Sheffield United boss was speaking at The Star’s office as he signed copies of his new book, ‘The Gaffer’, and he said that the Owls are in safe hands as they prepare for a second season back in the Championship.
“There’s no secret to success in that league,” he said. “It’s a question of being solid, consistent and having a good goalscorer. Getting the players to do that is the toughest job but Dave is the right man. He’s very experienced and knows what he’s doing.”
Warnock, who left the manager’s position at Leeds United on April 1 this year, won promotion three times to the top flight and led his side to a higher division on seven occasions.
He said the Owls won’t fear anyone. “There’s a lot of talk about parachute payments but it didn’t do the clubs (Wolves, Bolton and Blackburn) that came down into the league much good last season,” he said. “Wednesday have no need to have an inferiority complex. It’s important to get a good start, which keeps you up there.”
