Sheffield Wednesday: Youth boss unsatisfied despite win

Owls Under-21 head coach Lee Bullen felt his team should have won more emphatically in their league opener with Coventry City at Hillsborough.

A brace from Caolan Lavery and fine free kick from Rhys McCabe helped Bullen’s side, featuring Reda Johnson, Paul Corry and Jacques Maghoma, defeat the Sky Blues 3-2 yesterday.

Bullen told The Star: “It was great to get the three points.

“I was disappointed not to have won more comfortably with the opportunities we created.

“In the first half, we were all over them and it could have been four or five. We changed our formation a little bit after the break and it seemed to give them a foothold in the game and they got their second goal.

“We got caught on the hop but we recovered and Caolan’s second goal was fantastic and then Rhys [McCabe] scored a fabulous free kick.

“The game was a good learning process for the young lads to play with senior players and to take on more responsibility during the game.”
