Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal poured praise on his players after an impressive 3-2 win over Fulham at Hillsborough.

The Owls went in front through Fernando Forestieri's opener - his first for the club on his home debut - before Jamie O'Hard's effort from outside the box deceived the returning Keiren Westwood in the Wednesday goal to equalise.

Tom Lees had the home side back in front and Michael Turner also scored his first Owls goal to place Carvalhal's men in a commanding position.

Tom Cairney reduced the deficit but Wednesday hung on for their firsr league win since the opening day of the season.

Carvalhal said: "The game was exciting and we deserved the victory. We played very well for 70 minutes and for 20 minutes we closed the windows and the doors to try to protect the goal.

"It was our afternoon and we deserved the win. We missed a lot of chances against Burnley and Bolton and we are still missing some chances, but we are playing good football."

Ross Wallace was one of the stand-out performers for Wednesday and Carvalhal added: "Ross Wallace was ready to give the maximum in this match and he did very well. He had full energy. It wasn't just Ross because I felt that all the team played very well."

Forestieri came off at half time with a hamstring injury and is a doubt for next week's match against Brentford. The Italian is already cup-tied so would have already missed the midweek Capital One Cup tie away to Newcastle.

The head coach said: "Fernando (Forestieri) felt a little pain so we decided to leave him out at that stage. I think it is not a big problem."
