ROTHERHAM United had a dream start to life at the New York Stadium with a convincing win over Burton Albion.

The Millers had the best possible opening with two goals in the opening 10 minutes - and the New York Stadium was bouncing!

They went in front with just five minutes on the watch. A long throw from Arnason was cleared but Rotherham instantly regained possession and Noble flipped a short pass to Nardiello who moved into the area and drew a mistimed challenge from Diamond which forced the Millers striker to stumble and go down on one knee.

The referee pointed to the spot and despite Atkins dancing about on his line Nardiello calmly rolled the ball inch perfect inside the right hand post.

The ground erupted. And some Rotherham players hadn’t even had a touch of the ball!

Rotherham, going towards the away end which was half-filled with their own fans, threatened again and on 10 minutes scored again.

Arnason’s long throw was not dealt with by the keeper. Pringle pounced on the loose ball, his shot was deflected towards the far post and dropped perfectly for Odejayi who placed his header perfectly back across goal and into the far side of the net.

Manager Steve Evans was actually on the pitch celebrating and such a start must have been beyond Rotherham’s wildest dreams.

With 15 minutes to go Rotherham put the result beyond any doubt when Pringle got possession out on the left and his effort looped high beyond Atkins for the first Millers goal at the North End. The attendance of 11,441 is the best for a first home game for the club for over 40 years and, of course, will stand as the stadium record for now anyway.
